A. Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide a historical, social, economic and politic review of post-World War ІІ Britain. Basically, the course revolves around two main trends: domestic and international affairs, the course has two main themes: first, a look at the ways in which Britain lost its leading role in the world and the impact of such a loss on the British society, politics, and economy; second, a discussion of the notion of Britishness in age of devolution, racial and religious diversity. For the purpose at hand, a varied, but related range of topics are discussed including: the mechanism of British politics; the loss of the British Empire; the ambiguous relationship of Britain with Europe; Thatcherism; the relationship of England and wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, immigration and race relations.
A. Course objectives:
1) To deepen the students' knowledge of the study of history
2) To reinforce students' mastery of critical thinking through understanding and analysing historical facts
3) To enhance the research skills of students: Reading about and investigating a specific domain.
4) To provide students with a context in which to practice their language learning experience and to test if students have learned how to WRITE and THINK in English.
5) To give students a general idea about the geopolitical changes that happened in the world after WW ІІ and their impact on societies in general and the British in particular.
6) An awareness of the main and evolving frameworks of the British society.

B. Grading:
The exam is usually essay based, and the followings are taken into consideration when evaluating, also they should be taken into consideration by the students when writing:
1. Understanding the topic
2. Argumentation
3. Language
4. The reading pleasure for the reader
